The K.I.S.S. system sets a worldwide standard for kitesurfing Instructors and Schools. The KISS System protects the future of kitesurfing by promoting safe kitesurfing practices and improving the accessibility of the sport. The KISS certifies all levels of kitesurfer from beginner to instructor trainer. The KISS network is constantly expanding and is bringing safe kitesurfing practices to the world.
The K.I.S.S. system is the worlds first kitesurfing teaching system. The KISS System was developed in Hawaii by kitesurfing trainers, David Dorn, Flash Austin and John Holzhall with assistance from Sierra Emory and Dave Terry. We also thank the many other kiteboarders who have contributed to the program. The KISS teaching system is kept constantly up to date with the latest developments in the sport. Since its origin in Hawaii, the KISS techniques are now being taught in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Africa, Denmark, Germany and France.
THE KISS KITESURFING INTERNATIONAL SAFETY SYSTEM
*Kite Control (Level One)
Students learn basic kite control at this level. Utilizing a progressive range of kites they learn Safety protocols for Launching, Landing, emergency landing, and self rescue. correct kite setup and use of safety systems is also covered. The emphasis is on safety and technical information. Students should be able to demonstrate all the above skills to a competent standard.
*Powered Flight (Level Two)
Students learn powered flying skills including waterstarts and pumping skills and basic line detanglement with a full powered Kite. Students learn correct harness use. Students make a transition into the water with body drags with and without a harness. Students should be able to demonstrate all the skills in level one and the ones mentioned above.
*Get on Board (Level Three)
Students learn board launching protocols and straight line sailing skills, upwind sailing and jibe transition Skills are covered. Either tow-board or wake boards may be used. Right of way rules are discussed. Students should be able to demonstrate all the skills in level one and two plus the ones mentioned above.
*Getting Air (Level Four)
Students learn wave sailing theory and jumping techniques, light wind and highwind transitions are covered. Upwind ability and multiple launching and landing skills are covered. Students should meet all the requirements of the previous levels plus the skills mentioned above.
*Heavy Air (Level Five)
High level wave sailing, and jumping techniques, including looping and combination transitions. All launching and landing skills are tested. Including Coast runs and an emergency self rescue test. Students must meet all the requirements of the previous levels plus the skills mentioned above.
*KISS Kitesurfing Instructor Standards
Participants must be over 18 and have, current Adult CPR and First Aid certification. Instructors must have a high personal skill level greater then the level being taught. They must be certified by a
KISS Training Center. They must pay the annual registration fee of $25.00. They must log a minimum of ten hours teaching per year at a KISS Training Center.
*KISS Kitesurfing Instructor Trainer Standards
Participants must be over 21 and have, current Adult CPR and First Aid certification. Instructor Trainers must have been a certified KISS Instructor for at least one year. and attend an Instructor Trainer Course. They must be certified at the KISS Central Training Center. They must pay the annual registration fee of $125.00. They must log a minimum of 100 hours teaching per year at a KISS Training Center.
*KISS Training Center Standards
KISS schools must have adequate public liability insurance and operate with the permission of the local authorities. They must operate in a safe area away from hazards, excess boating traffic and have onshore or side shore winds. The KISS School must have a qualified KISS instructor. They must pay the annual registration fee of $250.00 US.
*Kitesurfing Instructor Courses
The KISS Instructor course has been upgraded to a two-week 40-hour comprehensive course to give a greater depth of experience for prospective kitesurfing instructors. Serious instructors from around the world come to Maui to attend a two week instructor certification at the KISS Instructor Training Center. The course covers kitesurfing equipment preparation and maintenance and kitesurfing skills including the KISS kitesurfing protocols and multiple lesson formats. Upon completion of the course, instructors undergo a practical skills test and an Instruction test to obtain the Instructor Certification (cost $1475.00). Airfare and accommodation packages to Maui are available. We are also doing two Kitesurfing Instructor Tours on the mainland (1999-2000) and in Australia (March 2000). Our instructor trainers will conduct kitesurfing courses in locations where the demand is highest.
*Retail Experience Program
The RETAIL EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (RK1) is a condensed program of kite safety and handling skills. In this program our Instructor Trainers will come to your shop and give you and your employees the three-hour course. This program will help educate your retail staff, who will then present vital safety information to your customers. The aim of the RK1 program is that the retailer gives every kite purchaser a Kite Safety Presentation (KS1) so that each customer is informed about, risks, risk management, equipment operation, and assumption of liability.

The package includes Instructor training, Equipment, Business and Marketing structure. Our Instructor Trainers will come to your location, train you and your employees, Supply and set up your equipment & Hook you up to the KISS business and marketing plan.
